The Feast of Passover is the first Feast our Creator appointed. Passover is Pesach (Pay-sahk) in Hebrew and is celebrated as the Feast of Deliverance. This is the first of the 7 feasts. The Israelites are called to celebrate their physical freedom from Egypt. Kept as slaves with a broken spirit, then released with the miraculous power of the Almighty, led by Moshe – Moses. Yahushua celebrated Passover with His disciples during the last supper (Matthew 26:17-30). Messiah later fulfilled it (1 Corinthians 5:7). During this Feast, Messiah tells all believers, “Do this in remembrance of me,” and promises a future Passover upon His return called the marriage supper of the Lamb (Luke 22:7-16). The Father sets this wedding date as Messiah and His Bride (His Church) eagerly await. The Jewish Nation celebrates with a special dinner called Seder (order of service). Symbolic foods are used to tell the story of their deliverance from Egypt. Believers in Yahushua also embrace the Passover Lamb, the promised Messiah who became the final blood sacrifice for sin. The Lamb of Yahweh must be a perfect male with no blemish (Exodus 12:5). The cup of Messiah is the third cup of the Passover Seder, named the cup of redemption. The bread of the Messiah is called the Afikomen. The middle matzah is broken, hidden, found, and then eaten at the end of the meal. Afikomen means ‘I came’ or ‘I arrived’ in Greek. Prophecy of this sacrifice is found in Psalm-22 and Isaiah-53. Yahushua parallels this event as He brought deliverance to all humanity from the death curse and spiritual bondage from sin (John 1:29). Christians who are non-Jews need to acquaint themselves with the Jewishness of Passover. Passover occurs on Nissan on the 14th day always. This is a Holy Day and a Sabbath Day! A time to remember a suffering servant on your behalf. Worthy is our King and Savior. Messiah’s name alone means Salvation! Have a joyous celebration knowing Yahushua HaMashiach, who conquered sin, hell, and the grave on our behalf. Glory to the Father!
